Situated in 2 acres of wild and cultivated gardens and surrounded by countryside Bishopsdale Oast is an ideal place to stay. It is centrally located for you to visit the many attractions that are in Kent and East Sussex be they gardens, castles, old villages, listed houses and the coast.
Our B&B is near Bodiam Castle, Hole Park, Rye, Benenden, Battle, Hastings, Dover Castle, White Cliffs, Scotney, Kent and Sussex Railway, Smallhythe, Batemans, Chartwell, Knole, Ightam Mote, Great Dixter, Merriments, Chapel Down and Biddenden Vineyards, Canterbury & Tunbridge Wells. We have details of places to visit on our 'Places of Interest' page.
Originally built in the middle of the 1700'S as a building to dry and store hops that are used to flavour beer, Bishopsdale Oast has been converted into a lovely house using a lot of the original brickwork and wooden beams which you will see in the hall, sitting room and dining room and in the bedrooms. We are now a highly commended bed and breakfast establishment not only for our accommodation but also for our breakfasts.
Coming up the driveway you will see, on your right, a pond with various wild fowl and on your left there is a 15 acre park inhabitated by over sixty deer. If you fail to see them they should be visible from your bedroom windows.
As you come into the hall of the house there are large double doors leading out to the terrace and thence to the garden filled with roses, tulips, daffodils and a whole variety of other flowers plus two flower beds filled with wild flowers, an extravaganza of colour. Further on we have an orchard with a variety of apple trees (eaters & cookers) plus plum, damson, fig and apricot trees.
A large pond, at the top of the garden, is full of water lilies and fish and is also home to a family of moor hens. Trees such as willows, oak and ash are in abundance and hidden amongst them is a rather sad fellow in a pair of stocks. A birthday present from Iain to Jane!
In the sitting room there are more double doors leading out to a small terrace and our side garden which in turn leads down to the 'dell' full of trees, ferns, lilies and lots of rhododendrons. All the gardens are inter-connected and you are welcome to wander round, sit on the various benches, and generally relax and enjoy the peace and quiet.
